A sudden and unexplained death has deeply affected the community following the passing of 12-year-old judo champion Marc Jose Aguilar. The inquest into his September 14, 2024, death concluded that there was "no obvious explanation." Marc, a Year 8 pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern in Cardiff, was found unresponsive in his bedroom.
During the inquest, it was revealed that Marc had been swimming and had lunch with his father on the day he died. His family discovered him unresponsive in his bedroom after a sister could not open the door. Despite CPR efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced dead.
Investigations into Marc's recent activities included an examination of his phone. His last internet search inquired about excessive protein intake for a child. He had also repeatedly searched for information regarding adrenaline rushes in the weeks prior.
Pathologists found no significant injuries or natural disease. The coroner concluded misadventure, suggesting Marc had deliberately applied pressure to his neck but did not intend to end his life.
