Doctors initially sent her home with painkillers, but her symptoms worsened dramatically overnight, leaving her completely immobile and in agony. Admitted to the hospital again, Rebecca lost the ability to sit up, move her limbs, or even hug her children. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder.
Rebecca faced life-threatening complications, including facial paralysis, difficulty swallowing, blurred vision, and breathing problems, requiring a feeding tube and oxygen. After several weeks, she began a slow recovery, eventually being discharged eight weeks later in a wheelchair. While she continues to regain strength and mobility, the experience has profoundly changed her perspective on listening to her body.
