Mumbai Hospital to Close In-Patient Services for Repairs
5 Nov
Summary
- V N Desai Hospital to suspend in-patient services within weeks.
- Temporary porta-clinics will continue OPD services for patients.
- Emergency cases will be transferred to Bandra's K B Bhabha Hospital.
V N Desai Hospital, managed by BMC in Santacruz East, is slated to suspend its in-patient services within the next one to two weeks. This closure is necessary for essential structural repairs, following recommendations from the hospital infrastructure committee. The building has been deemed risky, with safety nets in place.
During the repair period, the hospital will maintain its daily Outpatient Department (OPD) services using three temporary porta-clinics set up within the compound. Electrical work also requires a temporary shutdown of power supply. Emergency admissions will be rerouted to K B Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, with patients transported via ambulance accompanied by a doctor.
Staff, including doctors and nurses, will be split between the V N Desai OPDs and the in-patient services at Bhabha Hospital. However, concerns have been raised about the potential impact on patients, especially those from Golibar and Bharat Nagar, who may find navigating Bhabha Hospital challenging. The future of support programs, such as the Dilasa clinic for domestic abuse victims, remains uncertain.
