Mumbai's civic body is embarking on a significant three-phase initiative to modernize its public healthcare infrastructure. This ambitious plan aims to integrate advanced technologies and improve patient care services across its facilities.
The initial phase will focus on implementing smart digital OPDs to streamline patient flow and reduce waiting periods. A robust hospital management information system will be strengthened, alongside a central dashboard for real-time service monitoring. Efforts will also be made to fill vacant medical positions and establish insurance help desks in major hospitals.
Subsequently, a pilot for an online bed allocation system will be launched, enabling efficient assignment of vacant beds to patients. Each municipal ward will see the introduction of pilot 24/7 dispensaries. Artificial intelligence is slated for integration into radiology, pathology, and resource management. Staff training in soft skills, ethics, and patient care is also a priority.
The final phase will concentrate on achieving accreditation through NABH and other quality certifications. The BMC also plans to develop disability-friendly healthcare facilities and promote wider adoption of digital health services, potentially exploring public-private partnerships for financial aid to patients.
