Mumbai Clubs Shut Down for Ghastly Hygiene Failures
22 Aug
Summary
- Two elite Mumbai clubs suspended for severe hygiene violations.
- Inspections revealed fly infestations and cockroach issues.
- Food safety lapses included improper thawing and poor storage.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the business licenses of two prominent Mumbai clubs, The Bombay Presidency Radio Club and Khar Gymkhana, over severe hygiene violations. Inspections at The Bombay Presidency Radio Club revealed a 47% non-compliance rate, citing a fly infestation in the kitchen, dead cockroaches, and improper storage of chemicals near food. Refrigerators were found unclean, and dustbins were placed near cooking stoves.
Khar Gymkhana's license was suspended for failing to segregate raw and cooked food, risking cross-contamination. The club also lacked hot water for dishwashing, inadequately thawed frozen food, and neglected necessary pest control measures in its drainage system. Additionally, a McDonald's outlet and other restaurants faced similar suspensions due to ongoing unaddressed hygiene issues and misleading practices.
