Morning Exercise Slashes Heart Disease Risk
24 Mar
Summary
- Exercising between 7am and 8am lowers coronary artery disease risk.
- Morning workouts show benefits independent of total exercise duration.
- Study suggests timing may be a key, overlooked factor in heart health.

Exercising during specific times of the day may offer substantial benefits for reducing the risk of heart disease, according to recent findings. Research analyzing data from nearly 14,500 individuals revealed that morning workouts are associated with lower odds of developing coronary artery disease.
Specifically, exercising between 7am and 8am was linked to a 31% reduction in coronary artery disease risk. Importantly, these associations were found to be independent of the total amount of physical activity, suggesting that the timing of exercise, rather than just duration, may play a significant role in cardiovascular health.
Researchers are now aiming to establish a causal link through large-scale randomized trials to optimize exercise prescriptions by considering both dose and timing. This research highlights a potentially underappreciated dimension of exercise for improving cardiometabolic health.
