30 Sep
Summary
- Mom donated over 90 pints of breast milk to a local milk bank.
- Her son was born with Down's syndrome and oesophageal atresia.
- The milk bank is the only one of its kind in the Midlands.
Emma's son, Bert, born in November 2025, faced significant health challenges including Down's syndrome and oesophageal atresia. At just three weeks old, he developed sepsis and required 16 weeks in intensive care, during which his mother decided to donate her breast milk.
She has since donated more than 90 pints to the Human Milk Bank at Birmingham Women's Hospital. This facility is the sole provider of its kind in the Midlands, distributing 1,900 pints last year to premature and sick newborns whose mothers cannot breastfeed.
