Moderna Melanoma Vaccine Achieves Landmark Phase 3 Success

Moderna's personalized mRNA melanoma vaccine has achieved a significant milestone, with shares reportedly soaring approximately 58% in premarket trading Wednesday. The positive Phase 3 results from the INTerpath-001 study showed that intismeran autogene, combined with Merck's Keytruda, demonstrated superior efficacy in preventing melanoma recurrence compared to Keytruda alone.

This achievement is historic, representing the first successful Phase 3 trial for both a personalized neoantigen therapy and an mRNA cancer treatment. The trial involved over 1,100 participants with surgically resected melanoma, meeting primary and secondary endpoints for recurrence-free and distant metastasis-free survival.

Both Moderna and Merck are preparing to present detailed data at an upcoming medical conference. They will also engage with health authorities to explore regulatory approval pathways for this innovative cancer treatment. Merck's shares also saw an increase of approximately 6% following the announcement. The partnership currently has nine other studies underway targeting various cancers.
