2 Oct
Summary
- Midwife threatened to cut a patient if she didn't push.
- She questioned the patient's emotional state during pain.
- The midwife was struck off for failing to engage with the regulator.

A midwife has been struck off the professional register by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) following misconduct. Adenike Simiat Balogun-Sadiq was found to have failed to treat a patient, referred to as Mother A, with kindness and compassion. This decision follows previous findings of misconduct from July 17-18, 2019, at Princess Royal University Hospital.
During labour, when Mother A expressed inability to push, Mrs. Balogun-Sadiq threatened, "If you don't push, I'm going to have to cut you." She also asked the patient, "What's wrong with you? Are you emotional?" and neglected to ensure adequate pain relief during suturing.
Initially suspended in April 2025, her suspension was extended multiple times, with panels hoping for reflection and remediation. However, Mrs. Balogun-Sadiq failed to engage with the NMC, did not attend her virtual hearing, and provided false information about retiring. A striking-off order was issued, effective November 6, 2026, due to the risk of repeated misconduct.
