Mental Health Charity Overwhelmed by Demand
9 Feb
Summary
- Charity reports increased wait times due to demand.
- 28% of young people face NHS waits over a year.
- Parents seek free support while on NHS waiting lists.

An independent mental health charity in Oxfordshire, Response, has reported an overwhelming increase in demand for its services. Associate Director Jamie Douglas stated that the charity is experiencing longer wait times than desired, a situation exacerbated by rising NHS waiting lists. Currently, 28% of children and young people face waits exceeding a year for NHS mental health support.
Douglas explained that parents are increasingly turning to Response for assistance while their children are on NHS waiting lists. This has consequently increased the demand on the charity's resources. One parent shared how she had to persistently seek support for her daughter's anxiety, noting the difficulties with NHS processes. She found Response offered a more accessible and timely solution, providing a neutral space for her daughter.
