A distressing meningitis outbreak in Canterbury has severely impacted a local family, with a 21-year-old woman hospitalized after experiencing a seizure. Her mother recounted waking to hospital voicemails on March 15, 2026, revealing her daughter had been admitted after collapsing.

This incident follows a concerning meningitis outbreak in the area that has led to two fatalities and several individuals in induced comas. The young woman had visited Club Chemistry in Canterbury on March 12, 2026, a venue now cooperating with officials tracing potential contacts.

The affected mother expressed profound fear, stating her daughter's life would be irrevocably changed by the traumatic experience. She urged anyone with symptoms, such as a severe headache and fever, to seek immediate medical advice, emphasizing how quickly her daughter's condition deteriorated.

Authorities have confirmed 13 cases between Friday and Sunday and are providing guidance to students at the University of Kent. Two young people have tragically died, including a university student and a Year 13 pupil from Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School. Several others remain seriously ill.
