Health officials in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, have issued a public health alert after an individual contagious with measles visited a local Nissan dealership and a Wawa. The infected person was present at the Nissan 422 of Limerick in Royersford and the Wawa in Limerick between February 16 and February 19, 2026.
The health department emphasized that measles can remain infectious in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected person departs. Therefore, the potential exposure period includes the times of the visits and two hours thereafter. Individuals who may have been exposed are advised to closely monitor themselves for symptoms of measles for a period of 21 days.
Measles symptoms include fever, a distinctive rash, cough, congestion, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. As of February 19, 2026, Pennsylvania has reported a total of five confirmed measles cases for the year, a significant increase compared to the six cases reported throughout all of 2024. Vulnerable populations, including infants, young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems, are at higher risk of developing serious complications.
Those who believe they may have measles symptoms are strongly urged to stay home and contact their healthcare provider, an urgent care center, or a hospital *before* visiting. This precaution is essential to prevent further transmission of the highly contagious virus.
