Measles Outbreak Hits Arizona Detention Center

A Mexican national detained at the Florence Detention Center in Pinal County was confirmed to have measles earlier this month. In response, health authorities immediately implemented quarantine protocols for all individuals suspected of contact with the infected detainee.
This case is part of a growing concern, as two additional measles infections have since been identified in Pinal County. While health officials assess the overall risk to the general community as low, they are closely monitoring the situation. The Florence Detention Center is operated by CoreCivic, which stated their commitment to the health and safety of detainees and their cooperation with ICE.
Nationally, the United States has seen a significant rise in measles cases. As of 2026, there have been at least 416 confirmed measles cases reported across the country, a substantial increase compared to previous years. Arizona alone has reported 25 cases this year, with Pinal County accounting for three of them.
