Measles cases have emerged in various areas of Lower South Waziristan, sparking worries about the disease's transmission among children. Wana's District Headquarters hospital recorded 13 measles cases within the last two days. Seven cases were identified on one day, followed by six more the next. Despite most children in Wana being vaccinated, health authorities are forming teams to bolster preventive measures.
However, residents are expressing distress over the Wana hospital's limited facilities. They report that children suffering from measles face significant challenges in receiving proper treatment due to these shortages. The community is urging authorities to enhance healthcare services, ensure essential medical supplies are available, and provide prompt treatment. They also called for intensified vaccination drives and better treatment infrastructure at Wana hospital.
Just five days prior, the health department confirmed the deaths of twin siblings from measles in the Santoi area of Shakai tehsil within Lower South Waziristan, underscoring the critical need for immediate action.
