Enhanced Privacy for Urgent Maternity Care
17 Jun
Summary
- Maternity triage unit to be redesigned for greater patient privacy.
- The unit offers support for urgent pregnancy and postnatal concerns.
- Improvements align with national review and royal college recommendations.

A significant redesign is underway at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital to transform its maternity triage unit into a more private and self-contained space. This unit, operational 24/7, was initially established in 2022 to provide critical support for women experiencing urgent medical concerns during pregnancy or after childbirth, including issues such as reduced fetal movement or bleeding.
The planned improvements aim to ensure a better patient experience and allow midwives and support staff to concentrate fully on their triage responsibilities. By creating a separate area, staff will be less likely to be distracted by other demands within the maternity department. This initiative is guided by recommendations from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and aligns with a national review conducted in 2022.
