A 31-year-old woman experienced a dramatic transformation after surgeons removed a substantial 26cm ovarian cyst. The cyst, filled with eight litres of fluid, had caused her abdomen to swell significantly, leading to her being initially misdiagnosed with IBS.
Katie Wells, from Burton-in-Kendal, initially sought medical help in October 2025 for pain beneath her breast. Despite initial treatments, her condition worsened, with her abdomen rapidly expanding over two weeks.
An ultrasound on November 14, 2025, revealed the massive cyst. She underwent surgery on December 8, 2025, during which surgeons also removed her appendix, left ovary, and left fallopian tube. A CA125 cancer marker test indicated the growth was borderline pre-cancerous.
