17 Aug
Summary
- A man suffered multiple hospitalizations and near-death experiences.
- He was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer after a fall.
- His memoir raises funds for the NHS and local hospital teams.

Richard Clark's life took a dramatic turn after tripping over a kerb while walking a dog. Initially dismissed as minor injuries, the incident led to severe headaches, hallucinations, and collapse, requiring hospitalization. Scans revealed a spinal tumour, necessitating immediate surgery.
Shortly after, Clark was readmitted with a severe respiratory illness, requiring ventilation. Further scans then uncovered pancreatic cancer. He underwent extensive physiotherapy and surgery for the pancreatic cancer, followed by a six-month chemotherapy course.
His health challenges continued with a liver cancer diagnosis just before Christmas. By January 2025, he was given a prognosis of six to 12 months to live, experiencing three near-death episodes between January and July 2025. Despite these severe ordeals, Clark praised the NHS staff for their compassionate care.
Clark has since documented his experiences in a memoir, 'After the Fall,' which aims to raise funds for Friends of Stratford Hospital. His liver cancer has responded well to chemotherapy, showing a significant reduction in cancer markers, leading to a cautiously optimistic outlook.
