Manitoba Doctors Join Health Lines for Faster Care

Health Links-Info Santé, Manitoba's bilingual telephone program, is expanding its services by integrating physicians into its operations. This move is intended to bolster the province's virtual health offerings, ensuring residents receive prompt and appropriate medical advice over the phone. The program currently handles approximately 400 calls daily.

The addition of physicians is a strategic step to manage lower-acuity patient needs effectively and divert non-urgent cases from emergency departments. One physician has been available since earlier this month during daytime hours, with overnight physician coverage planned for December. Nurse practitioners are also expected to join the service.

Early results from physician involvement are promising, with a notable reduction in patients being triaged to emergency rooms. Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara highlighted that strengthening telehealth services is crucial for providing accessible care and alleviating pressure on hospitals. This expansion signifies a commitment to innovative healthcare delivery in Manitoba.
