In a significant public health initiative, KMC Hospital Mangaluru organized its 21st 'Walk for your heart' World Heart Day Walkathon on September 24, 2026. The event attracted more than 1,500 individuals dedicated to promoting cardiovascular health and active living.
The walkathon emphasized the importance of straightforward measures such as consistent walking, conscious dietary choices, and physical activity. These simple steps were highlighted as key to making heart health achievable for everyone, regardless of age.
Adding to the day's impact, KMC Hospital launched a specialized metabolic heart screening package. This initiative targets adults between 25 and 45 years old, aiming to identify potential cardiovascular and metabolic risks at their earliest, often asymptomatic, stages.
The event was formally commenced with a flag-off ceremony involving prominent figures, including Dr. Dilip G. Naik and Anand Fernandes. National-level athlete Sakshi Christina Karkada served as the torchbearer, adding an inspirational element to the proceedings. The route spanned key areas of Mangaluru, concluding at the Marena Sports Complex.
