11 Mar
Summary
- Men's hair loss linked to internal imbalances, not just scalp issues.
- Study analyzed 1.6 lakh Indian men's health data from 2024-2025.
- Constipation frequency indicated declining gut health, correlating with hair loss.

Hair loss is a prevalent concern, particularly for men, often impacting confidence. A new analysis by Traya Health, involving over 1.6 lakh Indian men's health assessments from December 2024 and December 2025, suggests that hair loss stems from internal imbalances rather than solely scalp issues.
The study examined gut health markers, using constipation frequency as a key indicator. Results showed a national trend of declining gut health, with few men reporting improved digestion in 2025 compared to 2024. This decline was most pronounced in urban, educated, and economically active regions.
Modern lifestyle factors such as ultra-processed foods, irregular meal timings, under-hydration, and stress-related eating are suspected contributors to poor gut health. Compromised gut function can lead to nutrient deficiencies and inflammation, impacting hair follicle health and accelerating shedding.
Traya Health emphasizes that hair loss serves as an early internal warning signal. Treatments should address the root causes, including gut health, nutrition, hormones, and stress, not just the scalp.
