19 Apr
Summary
- Man discovered a breast cancer lump, initially dismissing it as impossible.
- He documented his journey on social media to raise male awareness.
- He is awaiting a four-month chemotherapy plan followed by potential surgery.

James Eddleston, 43, from Heptonstall in West Yorkshire, was stunned to find a lump near his nipple, an occurrence he deemed impossible for himself. He initially ignored the lump for two months, only seeking medical advice when it became painful.
Despite being told it was likely nothing, subsequent scans and a biopsy confirmed he had breast cancer. Eddleston is now documenting his experience on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram to increase awareness among men about potential symptoms. He is scheduled to undergo a four-month chemotherapy regimen, with surgery to be revisited afterward.
Nurse consultant Joyce Graham noted that while breast cancer is predominantly a female disease, with five men diagnosed at her hospital last year compared to 718 women, men can experience stigma. She praised Eddleston's efforts to promote health awareness, emphasizing the importance of men understanding what to look for. Main symptoms in men include chest lumps, nipple discharge, changes in chest size or shape, and nipple inversion.
