Maharashtra Waives Charges for Tata Memorial Centre
21 Apr
Summary
- Government waives development charges for Tata Memorial Centre projects.
- Waiver applies to hospitals, quarters, and administrative buildings.
- Exemption covers expansion projects in Parel and new centres.

The state government of Maharashtra has officially waived development charges for all projects by the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) within the state. A notification issued on Monday by the urban development department confirms this exemption, citing the institute's limited financial capacity for development premiums and charges.
TMC will now be exempt from development charges and cess, similar to state government entities. This waiver applies to various projects, including the significant expansion in Parel, a new 100-bed cancer hospital in Khopoli, and a women and children's wing in Kharghar.
Previously, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had sought ₹252 crore as a premium for TMC's Parel expansion. The waiver, approved by the state cabinet on March 5, 2026, is based on an order from the finance department dated December 24, 2025.
This move acknowledges TMC's vital role in cancer care, treating approximately 10,000 patients annually, with significant subsidies for economically weaker sections. Officials expressed gratitude, highlighting the collaborative effort to support essential healthcare services.
