- The health scheme's coverage was expanded significantly in November 2025.

The Maharashtra government is preparing to enhance treatment packages under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Aarogya Yojana (MJPJAY) for critical illnesses. Health Minister Prakash Abitkar announced that proposals for increased packages covering neurosurgery, cancer, and orthopaedic procedures are being drafted. This initiative aims to improve patient care within the state's flagship health scheme.
A dedicated committee will be formed to establish standard operating procedures for a special corpus fund. This fund is designated for high-cost treatments, including heart, liver, and bone marrow transplants. The state health department is also encouraging public hospitals to pursue MoUs for advanced diagnostic services like PET-CT scans.
In November 2025, Maharashtra had significantly expanded the MJPJAY, increasing covered medical procedures from 1,352 to 2,399. This move broadened the scope of available treatments. The scheme, integrated with the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), offers beneficiaries up to ₹5 lakh annually per family.
