Ludhiana Dengue Cases Surpass Last Year's Total, Health Officials Intensify Response

As of 15 November 2025, the city of Ludhiana in northern India is grappling with a severe dengue outbreak. The number of dengue cases reported this season has already surpassed the total cases recorded last year. While Ludhiana had reported 474 dengue cases in 2024, the current year has seen 481 confirmed cases as of 15 November.
The situation has worsened over the past three weeks, with 229 new cases reported since 25 October, when the total stood at 252 cases. October was the worst-hit month, recording 245 cases, followed by September with 104 cases. The health department has identified 29 dengue hotspots across the district, with any locality reporting more than two cases classified as a hotspot.
In response, the state health minister visited Ludhiana last week and assured that coordinated efforts by the health department and district administration have been effective. He directed authorities to intensify fogging and larval surveillance in all affected areas, noting that falling night temperatures would naturally help curb mosquito activity. The minister also urged residents to clean and dry water-holding containers every Friday to prevent mosquito breeding, and to wear full-sleeved clothing for additional protection.
According to the latest figures from the local health department, 39 dengue patients were active as of 8 November, with 31 admitted to hospitals. The department has pledged to continue its efforts to bring the situation under control and prevent further spread of the disease.
