A significant two-day enforcement drive by the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) in Lucknow has resulted in the seizure of 9.8 tonnes of suspected adulterated and unsafe food products.
During the operation on July 8 and 9, officials destroyed over 8.5 tonnes of unfit food items across manufacturing units, warehouses, and retail locations. This included 145 kg of expired spices and approximately 8,400 kg of rotten, fungus-covered pickles found at a food processing unit.
Further actions involved the seizure of 8,983 kg of turmeric powder, garam masala, and other products suspected of adulteration from a spice manufacturing unit. This unit was ordered to shut down due to serious hygiene violations. The 19 collected food samples are now undergoing laboratory analysis, with further action pending the results under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
