A dedicated health and social care hub along Lincolnshire's coast is making a significant impact in its first year of operation. The £8.6 million Campus for Future Living, located in Mablethorpe, has launched new services aimed at tackling health inequalities.
Opened a year ago, the campus offers a public cafe and meeting spaces where various agencies can provide clinics and courses. Services now available include podiatry, mental health support, sleep services, free ear wax clinics, and physiotherapy. Educational programs, including GCSEs and adult education, are also part of the offerings.
This initiative is particularly crucial for East Lindsey's coastal communities. Government figures indicate that this district has a significantly higher proportion of residents aged 65 and over compared to the national average. Furthermore, poverty rates are elevated, and there are higher-than-average death rates from cancer and cardiovascular diseases before the age of 75.
Councillor William Gray highlighted the campus's growth into a "thriving hub of support, collaboration and opportunity." The project, supported by a government grant, is seen as a flagship effort by East Lindsey District Council to address these pressing issues. Organizers noted that challenges such as limited transport and infrastructure have historically made it difficult to bring essential services to the coast.
