Lilly's Foundayo Outperforms Ozempic in Diabetes Study
29 Sep
Summary
- Eli Lilly's Foundayo showed greater weight loss in diabetes patients.
- Foundayo also demonstrated better blood sugar control than Ozempic.
- Data comes from an indirect comparison of existing study findings.
Eli Lilly has reported that its oral obesity drug, Foundayo, offers significant advantages over Novo Nordisk's Ozempic pill for adults with type 2 diabetes. Data from an indirect comparison of existing studies indicates that Foundayo achieved greater weight loss and better blood sugar control.
The U.S. drugmaker's analysis compared Lilly's 17.2-milligram dose of Foundayo against Novo's 25-mg Ozempic pill, a higher dose of oral semaglutide not yet approved in the United States for type 2 diabetes treatment, with a decision expected by the end of 2026.
Lilly's findings, derived from multiple statistical methods, consistently showed Foundayo 17.2 mg yielding 1.5% to 2.4% more weight loss and 0.3% to 0.6% greater reductions in A1C levels. A Novo Nordisk spokesperson clarified that the comparison was specific to type 2 diabetes patients, not those solely with obesity, noting that weight loss generally differs between these groups in clinical studies.
