Summary
- A novel trauma foam was used to stop internal bleeding.
- The foam was administered to an Alabama man near death.
- The life-saving foam was developed by a Massachusetts company.

A revolutionary trauma foam, designed to combat internal bleeding, has demonstrated its life-saving potential in a critical medical case. Developed by Arsenal Medical in Waltham, Massachusetts, the ResQFoam was administered to Ronald Farms at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital (UAB).
Farms was critically injured in a car accident, suffering extensive internal damage including a ruptured spleen, lacerated kidney, and liver. Surgeons estimated he had only 20 minutes to live before Dr. Preston Hewgley made the decision to use the experimental foam.
The ResQFoam is inserted via a small incision and expands within the body cavity, applying pressure to injured tissues to temporarily halt severe bleeding. This innovative technology offers hope for treating intra-abdominal hemorrhage, a leading cause of preventable death, particularly on the battlefield.
Dr. David King, a trauma surgeon and Colonel in the Army Reserve, is the inventor behind ResQFoam, recognizing the urgent need for such a solution in combat medicine. Arsenal Medical's CEO, Upma Sharma, expressed cautious optimism, emphasizing the ongoing FDA-approved clinical trial to ensure the foam's safety and efficacy.
