Dengue Alert: Kozhikode Fights Rising Mosquito Breeding
17 Apr
Summary
- Dengue cases are increasing in Kozhikode district.
- Mosquitoes breed inside homes in stagnant water containers.
- Summer rains create favorable conditions for mosquito breeding.

A dengue alert has been issued for Kozhikode district due to a surge in cases. The District Medical Officer (DMO), K.K. Rajaram, is calling for enhanced efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. He emphasized that the mosquitoes responsible for spreading dengue lay eggs and reproduce in stagnant water sources found inside and near residential areas.
Common breeding grounds include stored water containers, discarded household items, plant pot trays, and even water collected in plant pots and refrigerator trays. Summer rains are currently creating ideal conditions for these mosquitoes to multiply. The DMO advises residents to ensure water storage containers are tightly sealed and to change water for pets and birds at least weekly.
