Kolkata Intensifies Dengue Fight Amidst Rising Fever Cases

The West Bengal health department is escalating its efforts against dengue, prompted by an observed increase in fever cases across various districts. While overall dengue cases remain significantly lower than in prior years, officials are implementing a robust strategy involving intensified search, testing, and treatment. Health facilities are mandated to maintain detailed patient lists, including contact information, to aid civic bodies in identifying and eliminating breeding grounds. This compliance is being monitored through a dedicated portal for private hospitals. Daily footfall data from fever clinics is also being collected to detect case clustering. Daily updates on confirmed dengue patients, especially those with severe conditions, are required on a special portal. Furthermore, specialized dengue observer teams have been established to provide on-site support to facilities with high patient volumes. Government blood centers are ensuring adequate platelet stocks are available as a precautionary measure. The department emphasizes that these actions are precautionary, not indicative of widespread panic, as a further spike is anticipated in the coming weeks. This year, approximately 4,500 dengue cases have been registered statewide, with seven official fatalities.
