International Yoga Day was widely celebrated across Kolkata on June 21st, 2026, with numerous events extending beyond the primary gathering on Red Road. As early as 4 am, residents like twelve-year-old Samridhhi Pandey were engaging in yoga. Metro railway officials and passengers participated in platform yoga sessions at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Esplanade stations around 6:30 am.
The nationwide 'Yoga 365' campaign, by the Ministry of Ayush, aimed to integrate yoga into daily life. This initiative saw participation from schools, colleges, hospitals, government offices, housing complexes, parks, and clubs. Gated communities organized their own sessions, with some even broadcasting the Red Road event before commencing their campus activities.
Educational institutions, including St. Xavier's College and Asian International School, hosted yoga sessions involving students and teachers. Naraindass Bangur Memorial School and Mitra Institution also saw enthusiastic student participation from early morning. Government buildings like Metro Rail Bhavan and Noapara carshed, along with the Calcutta High Court, observed the day through yoga practice.
Various organizations, such as the Lions Club of Urbana and Eastern Metropolitan Club, conducted multiple sessions catering to different age groups. Hospitals like Desun and Charnock Lohia focused on 'yoga for healthy ageing'. The postal department and Sports Authority of India (SAI) NSEC Kolkata also organized yoga camps, reinforcing the message of wellness for everyone.
