A 75-year-old woman from Hardoi is now mobilizing her knee after undergoing complex reconstructive surgery at King George's Medical University (KGMU). Previously bedridden for about a month due to a fall, she sustained a fracture in her right thigh bone. The damage to the lower femur was extensive, compounded by poor bone quality.
Given these challenges, the medical team opted for a distal femoral megaprosthesis, an artificial implant, to replace the damaged bone section. This advanced procedure, performed on October 29, aimed to restore function and enable early mobility. The entire surgery was funded through the Ayushman Bharat scheme, ensuring the patient received specialized care without personal cost.
