KGMU Plans Major Campus Overhaul for Better Patient Care
29 Nov
Summary
- KGMU plans two new multi-storey buildings for OPD and surgical services.
- Separate emergency patient care buildings are also under development.
- The changes aim to alleviate parking issues and streamline patient treatment.

King George's Medical University (KGMU) is planning a major campus development to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand is spearheading the establishment of two new multi-storey buildings on land opposite the Trauma Centre. One building will consolidate non-surgical OPDs and diagnostics, while the second will serve as a comprehensive surgical block for all departments requiring surgical facilities.
The initiative also includes a plan to separate emergency patient care following the construction of Trauma 2. This will create two specialized emergency buildings: one for accident-related cases needing surgical intervention and another for non-accident emergencies. This strategic division aims to streamline treatment processes and reduce patient burden.
These ambitious upgrades are anticipated to resolve current issues, including alleviating parking woes stemming from the current scattered OPD locations. With KGMU seeing approximately 8,000 patients daily, these changes are crucial for improving the overall healthcare experience for a large patient population.
