Kerala is initiating a significant public outreach program named 'Kayakalpam' to solicit public opinion on healthcare system shortcomings and patient care services. The initiative is set to commence on June 9 in Kozhikode, featuring an interactive session with various stakeholders including healthcare professionals, administrators, elected officials, and the general public.
This comprehensive program will span across all districts in Kerala with the objective of revitalizing the public health system. Health Minister K. Muraleedharan highlighted that 'Kayakalpam' aims to directly understand the daily healthcare delivery challenges and crises faced by the public and health administrators.
To optimize existing resources, the government is assessing health infrastructure, facilities, and human resources from community health centers upwards. While direct financial infusion for new infrastructure may be limited, the state will explore selective private health investments and enhance coordination with local self-governments to better utilize available funds and address facility or staffing shortages.
Following the public outreach, a prioritized list of health system improvements will be compiled. A detailed development plan, along with an implementation map and schedule, will be formulated to systematically address identified needs across the state's health sector.
