The government in Kerala has substantially enhanced public cancer care by introducing modern facilities at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC). Advanced medical technologies, including the first public sector robotic surgery unit, HIPEC treatment, and surface-guided radiation therapy, are now operational.
The RCC has also been equipped with sophisticated diagnostic and treatment systems such as Gallium Scan, PET-CT Scan, and advanced brachytherapy for prostate cancer. These upgrades are part of a new multi-storey building at RCC, constructed at a cost of ₹242 crore, aimed at reducing overcrowding and improving care for its annual patient volume of 2.5 lakh.
This expansion adds 200 patient beds and parking facilities, designed with green protocols and solar energy utilization. Furthermore, 12 acres have been allocated for a second RCC campus. Health Minister Veena George noted that the public sector now provides over 2,000 cancer care beds.
