The Kerala health department is set to launch the 'Golden Goal' project, an ambitious initiative designed to significantly reduce fatalities stemming from road accidents. This program prioritizes ensuring that accident victims receive prompt and appropriate emergency medical attention at hospitals best suited for their injuries.
The initial phase involves integrating the 108 ambulance network with ambulances operated by various government health departments. A central command and control center for emergency ambulance services will also be enhanced. Future phases plan to incorporate private and NGO-operated ambulances into this unified network.
This project, slated for a pilot run in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha districts, aims to save lives within the critical first hour post-accident. It seeks to improve emergency response coordination and lessen the financial strain on families by directing patients to suitable public and private hospitals, including those empanelled under KASP and PM-JAY.
Advanced technology, including computer-based dispatch, GPS tracking, and GIS mapping, will pinpoint accident locations and dispatch the most suitable ambulance. Real-time transmission of victim information to hospitals will enable pre-arrival preparations, minimizing treatment delays. The initiative also involves collaborations with police, fire services, and disaster management authorities, alongside public awareness campaigns.
