As of Sunday afternoon, the UK Health Security Agency confirmed no new cases of meningitis associated with the Kent outbreak. A total of 20 cases have been confirmed, with nine additional cases currently under investigation. This marks no change from the previous day's figures.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting acknowledged the challenging week and praised the "Herculean efforts" of those responding to the outbreak. He offered condolences to the families of the two students who tragically died due to the disease, University of Kent student and 18-year-old Juliette Kenny. The Health Secretary also thanked healthcare professionals and the public for their cooperation with vaccination and antibiotic efforts.
Earlier in the week, East Kent Colleges Group informed parents of a suspected case. While officials warned of potential sporadic clusters elsewhere, the queues for vaccines and antibiotics significantly decreased over the weekend, indicating a stabilization of the situation.
