Meningitis Cases Drop in Kent Amid Vaccination Drive

The number of confirmed meningitis cases in Kent has seen a decline, dropping from 23 to 20 after further testing. Suspected cases also decreased, bringing the total to 29. Nineteen of the confirmed cases are meningitis B, and all have required hospitalization.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting commended the "Herculean efforts" of frontline workers and the public in managing the outbreak and caring for those affected. He expressed condolences to the families of the two students who tragically died and offered support to those hospitalized.
The vaccination campaign, which began on Wednesday, has seen thousands of eligible individuals receive the menB vaccine or antibiotics. As of Saturday evening, over 8,000 meningitis B vaccines and 12,157 antibiotics had been administered. While cases have decreased, health officials urge continued vigilance and prompt medical attention for anyone showing symptoms.
