Kent Care Home Closed Over Safety Failures
24 Apr
Summary
- The White House care home in Chatham was rated inadequate four times by the CQC.
- Inspectors found a closed culture, unsafe medicine management, and dirty environments.
- All residents will be moved to alternative care settings with support.

A care home in Chatham, Kent, has ceased operations following repeated inadequate ratings from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The White House care home, operated by Curant Care Homes Limited, which accommodated up to 38 elderly individuals, some with dementia, received its fourth inadequate rating in March 2025.
Inspectors documented serious concerns including a lack of meaningful activities for residents and the failure of leadership to address a closed culture that allowed harm to go unchecked. Furthermore, staff were found to be pre-signing medicine records, and the premises were not maintained to a clean standard.
Consequently, all residents are being relocated to alternative care facilities. Curant Care Homes Limited expressed sadness over the decision, acknowledging the efforts of their dedicated staff. The company withdrew its appeal to the Care Standards Tribunal, citing that closure was in the best interest of all involved, and confirmed close collaboration with the local council for resident transitions.
