On August 13th, 2025, a 15-year-old boy named Karan from Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, narrowly escaped death after being bitten by a cobra while collecting firewood in Udaipur village. Hearing his cries, local residents rushed to his aid and killed the snake.
Karan's elder brother, Suraj, and uncle Shivam immediately took him to the Kannauj district hospital on a motorcycle, carrying the dead snake for identification. The boy's condition was critical when he arrived at the hospital. Emergency medical officer Dr. Hari Madhav Yadav sprang into action, administering 76 antivenom injections over the course of 2 hours - one every one and a half minutes - while closely monitoring Karan's oxygen levels.
Initially unresponsive, Karan is now stable and under observation. "He is now able to talk, though he still feels drowsy," said his brother Suraj. Dr. Yadav stated that the hospital had an adequate supply of antivenom and that timely intervention was crucial to Karan's survival. As of August 18th, 2025, Karan is expected to make a full recovery.
