The Puducherry government has re-allotted approximately 51 acres of land to JIPMER in Sedarapet, paving the way for two significant new facilities: a Centre for Trauma Care and Rehabilitation with an air ambulance, and a Centre for Organ Transplantation. This development marks the realization of a long-standing institutional vision for JIPMER, with a combined investment nearing ₹1,000 crore.
The Centre for Trauma Care and Rehabilitation, estimated at ₹425 crore, will feature a 250-bed capacity, including advanced operation theatres and a dedicated helipad for air ambulance services. This center will integrate multiple specialties to provide comprehensive trauma care and serve as a national hub for training and research.
Complementing this, the Centre for Organ Transplantation, with a ₹550 crore outlay, will be a 400-bed facility supporting deceased and living donor programs for various organs. It is envisioned as a regional hub for organ sharing, coordination, and advanced transplant research, creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and transforming the region into a healthcare and economic growth hub.
