24 Feb
Summary
- ₹200 crore earmarked for cancer prevention in Jharkhand's budget.
- Mammography machines to be installed in all 24 district hospitals.
- 750 Abua Dawakhana to open for affordable, quality medicines.

In the 2026-27 state budget presentation, Jharkhand's Finance Minister Radhkrishan Kishore announced a significant allocation of ₹200 crore towards cancer prevention efforts. This measure comes in response to the rapidly increasing incidence of cancer, including a notable rise in breast cancer among women in the state.
To combat this trend, mammography machines will be installed in all 24 district headquarters hospitals, aiming for early detection of breast cancer. The budget also includes a total provision of ₹7,990.3 crore dedicated to enhancing health facilities across Jharkhand.
Furthermore, the government is committed to expanding healthcare accessibility by establishing 750 Abua Dawakhana, ensuring the availability of affordable and quality medicines. In a phased development plan, several Sadar hospitals, including those in Dhanbad and Giridih, are slated to be upgraded into medical colleges and hospitals under a public-private partnership model.
