Jesy Nelson's Twins Get Leg Splints at GOSH
31 Mar
Summary
- Jesy Nelson's twin daughters diagnosed with SMA Type 1.
- Babies fitted with leg splints at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
- Scotland now tests all newborns for SMA as part of a pilot.

Jesy Nelson recently shared endearing images of her twin daughters, Ocean and Story, following their treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The nine-month-old twins, diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 in January, were seen fitted with leg splints and wearing matching pink hats. Their feeding tubes were also visible as they enjoyed an outing in their pram.
Nelson's update follows her visit to a Scottish laboratory pioneering SMA newborn blood spot screening. Scotland's new pilot scheme tests all newborns for the condition, a development Nelson described as 'bittersweet,' wishing this screening had been available earlier for her daughters. The singer has become a patron of SMA UK, actively campaigning for the condition to be included in NHS newborn screening.
Despite the challenging prognosis for SMA Type 1, which can significantly shorten life expectancy without treatment, Nelson is determined to advocate for change. She continues filming her Prime Video series, aiming to raise awareness and drive improvements in early detection and treatment for SMA. Her petition for wider screening surpassed 100,000 signatures, prompting a debate in the House of Commons.
