Jersey AED Map: Public Gets Defibrillator Know-How
8 Jan
Summary
- Public campaign to teach defibrillator use starts this spring.
- Hotel fundraising target surpassed for new AED after guest emergency.
- Most AEDs owned by businesses/community, not government.

Jersey's public health department announced a public awareness campaign set to begin this spring. The campaign aims to educate the community on the proper maintenance and effective use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
This initiative comes after a recent incident on Gorey Pier where a hotel guest experienced a suspected cardiac arrest on Christmas Eve. The Mooring Hotel had aimed to raise over £3,000 for a new AED, a target they successfully surpassed following the emergency.
While the government does not own most AEDs, it is collaborating with Defib.je and Jersey Heart Support (JHS) to create an island-wide map and improve resource optimization. Device owners are reminded of their responsibility for ensuring AEDs remain accessible and functional, including timely battery and pad replacements.
