Jamshedpur and surrounding areas in East Singhbhum district are experiencing a rise in dengue cases. In the last 72 hours, five new confirmed infections were reported, bringing the total to 10 cases since August 1. The new cases were identified in Kadma, Mango, Telco, Sakchi, and Ghatsila. The affected individuals include a two-year-old boy and four adults aged between 15 and 41 years.
Three patients are currently receiving treatment at Tata Motors Hospital, with one each admitted to Tata Main Hospital and St John's Hospital. Health department officials stated that nearly 4,900 suspected cases have been tested since August 1. Surveillance efforts have been heightened since the first case in early August. Officials stressed the importance of maintaining alert status until the end of September, citing irregular rainfall and temperature fluctuations as potential risk factors for increased dengue transmission.
Meanwhile, in the neighboring West Singhbhum district, a public awareness campaign for swine flu (H1N1) has been initiated. A publicity vehicle has been deployed to educate residents on symptoms, preventive measures, and precautions against infection.
