Indore Diarrhoea Outbreak: Contaminated Water Claims Lives

Indore is grappling with a severe outbreak of diarrhoea attributed to contaminated drinking water, particularly in the Bhagirathpura area. Health officials have conducted extensive screenings, examining 9,416 individuals from 2,354 households and identifying 20 new cases on Sunday. This proactive measure comes as the city records six confirmed fatalities directly linked to the consumption of unsafe water.

The ongoing health crisis has seen 398 patients admitted to hospitals since the outbreak began, with 256 having already recovered and been discharged. Currently, 142 patients remain hospitalized, a significant number of whom, 11, require intensive care. To address the escalating situation, a specialized team from the National Institute for Research in Bacterial Infections (NIRBI) has been dispatched to Indore to aid in the investigation and containment efforts.
