A significant two-day conference and simulation exercise on "One Health: Integrating Health Security and Biosecurity" commenced recently in the city. Organized by the Deccan Centre for International Relations (DCIR) in collaboration with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and LEAD at IFMR/KREA University, the event convened a diverse group of professionals.
This crucial conference facilitated a multi-stakeholder dialogue, bringing together policymakers, scientists, public health experts, biosecurity specialists, veterinarians, and academics. The primary objective was to enhance India's National One Health Mission. This involved fostering integrated approaches for controlling zoonotic diseases, addressing antimicrobial resistance, and improving environmental surveillance.
Thematic sessions explored various facets of "One Health," including biological and technological innovations, governance, and international cooperation. Discussions also covered the foundational role of "One Health" in national health and biosecurity, alongside concerns regarding biosecurity, dual-use research, and laboratory networks. The event concluded with a valedictory address by the World Health Organization Representative to India.
