India has set a December 1, 2027, deadline to achieve comprehensive HIV control through its Mission AIDS Suraksha initiative. This goal was highlighted during a significant review meeting in Guwahati.
The Northeastern region is identified as a critical area in the national HIV response, with 60 out of India's 219 high-priority districts located there. This underscores the region's importance in achieving national targets.
A three-day workshop in Guwahati facilitated an intensive review of HIV program implementation across these 60 high-priority districts in the Northeast. The meeting focused on accelerating progress and strengthening district-level planning.
Participants discussed customized strategies to achieve the 'Surakshit Plus' status and meet the global 95-95-99 HIV targets. These targets involve ensuring 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% receive treatment, and 99% achieve viral suppression.
This Guwahati workshop is the first in a series of eleven regional meetings planned nationwide during February-March 2026, covering all 219 high-priority districts. The deliberations aim to develop actionable roadmaps for each state, reinforcing the commitment to ending HIV/AIDS as a public health threat.
