India's Healthcare Gap: Doctors Are Fine, System Needs Uniformity
14 May
Summary
- Uniformity in healthcare services is India's critical challenge, not doctor quality.
- A new robotic surgical system, MedBot TOUMAI MT, was launched in Tiruchi.
- The advanced system will enhance precision in complex surgeries for various cancers.

National Medical Commission Chairman Chandrakant Sheth has urged policymakers to intensify efforts towards achieving greater uniformity in India's healthcare services. He noted that while India possesses superior medical infrastructure compared to many Western nations, the disparity in healthcare delivery remains a significant concern.
Sheth articulated that the core issue lies not with the quality of medical professionals but with the lack of consistent healthcare services across the country. He stressed that healthcare practitioners must be open to change to effectively address systemic problems.
These statements were made during the launch of the MedBot TOUMAI MT, an advanced robotic surgical system, at Dr. G. Viswanathan Hospitals in Tiruchi. This four-arm robotic platform is designed to aid surgeons in executing intricate procedures with high precision.
The MedBot TOUMAI MT will be utilized for various cancer surgeries, including colectomy, gastrectomy, thyroidectomy, and prostatectomy. Additionally, it will be employed for treating benign conditions such as appendectomy and hernia repair, enhancing surgical accuracy and patient safety through minimally invasive techniques.
