The National Health Authority (NHA) is developing a national policy for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, aiming to provide a roadmap for its comprehensive application. This initiative was announced by NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal at a 'Chintan Shivir' in Pune. He highlighted that emerging technologies like AI are crucial for addressing significant health challenges.
Dr. Barnwal also praised the success of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY) in alleviating financial stress for citizens. He noted that data-driven transparency and AI will be instrumental in the next phase of India's healthcare transformation, building on the scheme's seven-year journey.
Minister of State for Health, Meghna Sakore Bordikar, emphasized Maharashtra's commitment to advanced technology, including AI, for quality healthcare delivery. She highlighted Maharashtra's pioneering role in specialized care, such as the state's dedicated menopause clinics launched in January, which have benefited over 17,000 women.
The 'Chintan Shivir' also included a review of key performance indicators for ABPMJAY and the ABDM, with states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka presenting their progress. The event featured the launch of NHA's digital academy and the NHCX strategy paper, underscoring a push for digital health integration.
